The sun is setting on the asphalt of the Estoril circuit in the Cascais region. The last car returns to the paddock, the chequered flag is still flying in the air. This is the end of the year season of the series by Peter Auto. Let’s take a look at this last weekend of racing.
Only a handful of competitors can boast of having already raced on the Estoril circuit in 2011 when Classic Endurance Racing was the curtain-raiser to the Le Mans Series meetings. For the others it’ll be a real discovery – a twisty undulating layout marked in particular by the Corkscrew and the Parabolica. Although this circuit is the most modern in the season by Peter Auto, it already has a rich history, in particular in Formula 1: Ayrton Senna’s first victory (1985), a stunning duel between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna (1988), Ricardo Patrese’s spectacular “flight” (1992) and Jacques Villeneuve’s incredible overtake of Michael Schumacher (1996).
Finishing the season in the south of Europe also fulfills a desire to extend the holiday season by basking in the gentle heat of the Indian summer. The sun, the sea and the proximity of Lisbon make Estoril the ideal destination to bring down the curtain on 2021 on a high note and celebrate the champions in the eight grids by Peter Auto: 2.0L Cup, Classic Endurance Racing 1 & 2, Endurance Racing Legends, Group C Racing, Heritage Touring Cup, Sixties’ Endurance, The Greatest’s Trophy.
